Tim O'Reilly, in an article titled, "What is Web 2.0", argued that Web 2.0 companies clustered around a set of key themes:
- People-to-people connections versus business-to-business connections (Linkedin, Friendster, FaceBook)
- User as contributor (PageRank, eBay, Amazon, CraigsList)
- Participation, not publishing (blogs)
- Radical trust (wikipedia, PayPal)
- Radical decentralization
